(See the story about Orlando's current flag.)

I’m Chad. This is my attempt at a flag for the City of Orlando.

I took inspiration from geography, our reputation, how we see ourselves, the teams we root for and what people know us by, and from other flags.

First, geography.

If there are things distinctive about our place in the world,

it’s that we are on a peninsula

and we're surrounded by lots of water.

And Orlando isn't just
on a peninsula, but

in the
middle
of it.

Second, reputation.

Orlando is known for

nature,

sunshine,

excitement,

and tourism

Third, what we think of ourselves.

Orlando has Latino culture everywhere, Vietnamese districts, Turkish festivals, German celebrations, Pride parades, snowbirds, hicks, students, tech geeks,
and you.

What distinguishes Orlando from all around it is acceptance of all kinds of people.

Fourth, take hints from our teams.

Orlando sports use spiky sun-ray designs Spiky. Nice!

Fifth, look to other flags for inspiration.

Use hundreds of years of flag tradition from all over the world,

Let’s combine all those elements of water, and nature, centrality, sunshine, growth, excitement, and variety.
